Why people switch from Zoho Mail
- Zoho Mail Lite costs about US$1 per user per month with 5 GB (as of October 16, 2026). A Velto mailbox is US$10 per year with 10 GB. The prices are close; the differences are storage and the price lock.
- Zoho prices per user per month and can change its plans. A Velto mailbox renews at the price you paid.
- Zoho runs a Canadian data centre, but accounts opened in another region may be stored outside Canada. Velto stores every mailbox in Québec, Canada.
- Velto does one thing: mail, calendars and contacts, with support in English and French.
What moves
- Every message, with its folders, read and unread state, flags, original dates and attachments.
- Contacts and calendars come across as files: export them from Zoho Mail (contacts as a .vcf file, calendars as .ics files) and import them into your Velto address book and calendar from your phone or computer.
- Your domain stays yours. Only the mail records (MX) change.
What doesn't move
Zoho CRM, Books, WorkDrive, Cliq, Writer, Meeting and the other Zoho apps. Velto replaces the mailbox only; you can keep those apps where they are.
Mail filters, rules and signatures don't move; set them up again in Velto.
How long it takes
- A mailbox of a few GB usually copies within a few hours. Larger ones take longer, and an interrupted copy picks up where it stopped.
- A day or more ahead, lower the time-to-live (TTL) on your MX records; then point them at Velto. Velto shows the exact records and checks them.
- For 48 to 72 hours after that change, anything that still lands at Zoho Mail is copied across.
- You get a “migration complete” email. Then you can close your Zoho Mail account.

How to switch
- In Zoho Mail, turn on IMAP access in your mail settings. If you use two-factor, create an app-specific password in Zoho Accounts, under Security.
- Add your domain to Velto, create your mailboxes, and enter your Zoho address and app password. On Zoho's free plan, which has no IMAP, export your folders from Zoho Mail and upload the files instead.
- Change your MX records and remove Zoho's SPF and DKIM entries. Velto shows the exact records and checks them.
Migration is self-serve: in the Velto dashboard, enter the old address and its password or app password, and the copy runs in the background while you start using Velto. Founding firms also get the founder's direct line if anything looks off.
Keep using your phone and apps
Remove the Zoho Mail account from your mail apps and add your Velto address and password. Thunderbird, classic Outlook and Apple Mail on a Mac find the settings on their own; on an iPhone, a one-tap setup profile adds mail, calendar and contacts; Android takes a few more taps. Calendars and contacts sync too. With two-factor on, each mail app gets its own app password from the Velto dashboard. You can also install the Velto web app on your phone.
Questions
Is it worth switching if the prices are about the same?
If Zoho Mail does what you need, maybe not. Teams switch for the 10 GB, the price lock, storage in Canada or a mail-only service.
Can I keep Zoho CRM?
Yes. Velto only changes where your mail goes.
I'm on Zoho's free plan. Can I still move?
Yes. The free plan has no IMAP, so your mail comes across from an export file instead of a live copy.
